A pacy forward with clinical finishing, Lee Seung-Yeoul is the latest addition to Korea Republic’s next generation of strikers. He may be the youngest among in the Taeguk Warriors squad at the 2010 FIFA World Cup South AfricaÔ, but their opponents will underestimate the baby-faced forward at their peril.

After coming through the ranks at Korea Republic’s youth national teams, Lee took part in the 2009 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Egypt, although he could not put his name on the score sheets at the world finals.

Nevertheless, he was called up to the senior national team later that year, before making his full international debut in a friendly with Zambia in January 2010.

He began his professional career at FC Seoul in 2008, and after helping the capital club finish runners-up in the K-League championship final he was voted the Rookie of the Year. Lee continued his impressive form for his club side in the following season, scoring seven goals in 26 games in all competitions despite being mostly used as a substitute.

And it was in the EAFF East Asian Championship in February where he finally came into prominence with two clinical strikes. Lee opened his international account with a calm finish in a 5-0 drubbing of Hong Kong, before leading his country to a 3-1 comeback win over hosts Japan by firing a blistering effort into the net. Although Korea Republic finished runners-up after a stunning 3-0 defeat at the hands of China PR, the Taeguk Warriors returned home with their heads held high following the famous victory against their archrivals.
