Signed from Sami Hyypia's former club MyPa 47 of Finland in November 2004, towering Tanska is entering his third campaign with the Addicks. The six-foot-three central defender took a while to settle into his new surroundings but the 2005/06 season saw the uncompromising youngster show exactly why the club went to such lengths to secure Tanska's much sought-after signature. Arriving in SE7 in a hail of publicity, Tanska initially had problems nailing down a regular starting berth for the U18s and picked up just six starts for the senior academy side in the remainder of the 2004/05 campaign. The following season was a different story, however, and only Kieran Murtagh, skipper Grant Basey and Dane Springer managed more than the 15 starts the competitive young Finn accumulated. Anjalankoski-born Tanska, who also opened his U18 scoring account with a fine headed effort against Crystal Palace in November, turned professional in the summer of 2005. Tanska might not be the last player to join the Addicks from MyPa, either. When he signed for the club, the Addicks also completed a deal with the Finns whereby the English club has first option on any promising youngsters emerging through the MyPa ranks. |
