JEREMY CLEMENT became Paul Le Guen's fourth top-team signing of the summer of 2006 after a prolonged pursuit. Le Guen, who worked with the young midfielder at Lyon, had expressed an early interest in bringing him to Ibrox. But it was only after weeks of negotiating with the French club that Clement was able to become a Rangers player, signing up just in time to join the rest of the squad on the pre-season tour of South Africa. The 21 year-old had been integral part of the Lyon side for the previous two seasons but jumped at the chance to be reunited with his former mentor. He said: "Paul Le Guen's presence at Rangers made it easier for me to sign. I already knew in my mind I wanted to come to Rangers but knowing I would be working with Paul again helped seal the deal. "When he used to call me over the summer he made me feel that he wanted me to come to Rangers and every player needs to hear that from their manager. "When we spoke on the phone Paul told me about how great a club this is and how only good things could happen to me if I moved to Rangers. "Paul also said I was lucky to getting the chance to join a massive club like this and I shouldn't let it pass me by." |
