Considered by many as the next big thing in Asian football, Yaser Al Kahtani is hoping to take the 2006 FIFA World Cup Germany™ by storm. Al Kahtani’s impressive dribbling skills and phenomenal speed have marked him out as a player to watch in the Saudi Arabian league. In the summer of 2005, the striker turned down a lucrative move to Al Ittihad in favour of boyhood heroes Al Hilal. Now he has his sights set on a move to Europe in order to realise his true potential. During the FIFA World Cup qualifiers, he was a crucial asset to the Saudis' successful campaign. He played a vital part against Korea Republic in the home match in Dammam, where he created the first goal and won a penalty from which he scored the second. “His outstanding performance tonight proved that he is a first-class player and can inflict huge damage against any side,” said then Saudi coach Gabriel Calderon after the 2-0 victory. Now Al Kahtani has Spain, Ukraine and Tunisia in his sights as he seeks to help the Sons of the Desert into the last 16.
