Started his international career only in 2005, against Bahrain. Born in Emden, Germany, of a German mother and Iranian father, his decision to play for Iran only came after long debate, as he was eligible to play for both countries, and had been called into the German youth team. Thousands of Iran fans sent him petitions to convince him to play for 'TeamMelli'. Currently plays in midfield for FC Kaiserslautern, and was previously at VfB Lubeck and SC Freiburg in Germany.
